Acting Out: Day 38 — Your Name on God’s Lips

Read Acts 23:1-22

Key Verse: Acts : 23:11 “That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul, just as you have told the people about me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome.” (NLT)

Again, we see Paul facing great obstacles as he tries to share the love of Christ with those around him. He was a prisoner and now a group of more than forty men were plotting against him with the idea of murdering him. Once again, God speaks to Paul and does some great things for Paul. In verse 11, there are three awesome things that God does for Paul. First of all, God appeared to encourage Paul. Paul had been in situations like this before but it is not something you could ever get used to. God knew Paul’s heart and He knew just what to say to encourage Paul.

Secondly, God called Paul by his name. What an amazing experience that must have been to hear God speak his name? Paul would not only be encouraged that day but he must have felt honored that the God who spoke creation into being also spoke Paul’s name. Finally, God tells Paul that He still has a plan for Paul. No matter what others might plot or plan to do to Paul, it would not be his end as long as God still had work for Paul to do.

I think each of us can receive the same three things from this passage as we face struggles while trying to Act Out for God. Be encouraged that God knows how you feel, He knows you by name, and He has a future for you. Act Out in confidence, and remember, “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” Romans 8:31.

Prayer: “Lord, I’m glad that you know exactly how I feel. Please give me the strength that I will need to see your plans fulfilled in my life.”
