Read Acts 27:1-20
Key Verse: Acts 27:9 “We had lost a lot of time. The weather was becoming dangerous for long voyages by then because it was so late in the fall, and Paul spoke to the ship’s officers about it.” (NLT)
It seems that for Paul to ask to have his case brought before Caesar was one of those things that was a lot easier said than done. Getting to Rome required a long trip, much of which was done by sailing. Paul, although not known for his experience as a sailor, was wise enough to know that continuing to sail the ship this late into the fall was going to be very dangerous and costly.
The ship’s officers did not heed Paul’s warnings, instead they decided to listen to everyone but Paul. They listened to the advice of the ship’s captain and the ship’s owner and even the crew but they would not listen to Paul. It was not long after they set sail that they faced some terrible weather and Paul proved to be the wisest of them all when it came to giving advice.
Quite often people don’t want to hear advice from others, especially when that advice is to not do something. Most often people will go ahead and do what they have been warned against doing and later wish they had listened.
As a Christian there are many things that you know other people should not do, yet they do them anyways. Like Paul, it is your duty to try and help people by warning them and doing your part to help people make the right decision, especially when it comes to them receiving Christ. You can not make the decision for them but you can let them know that they have options.
Prayer: “Lord, help me to do my part to lead people to you. Please help those I talk with to make the right decision for you.”
